Professor Reginald V. Lord MBBS MD FRACS is an upper gastrointestinal surgeon in Sydney.

Professor Reginald V. Lord specialises in the diagnosis and laparoscopic (keyhole) treatment of oesophagus and stomach problems such as

  • gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), including hiatus hernia and para-oesophageal hernia repair

  • obesity (weight loss or bariatric surgery)

  • oesophagus cancer and stomach (gastric) cancer.

Professor Lord also specialises in

  • laparoscopic (keyhole) gallbladder surgery

  • laparoscopic hernia surgery, including inguinal (groin) hernia, umbilical hernia, incisional hernia, epigastric hernia, and other hernia surgery.

Professor Lord performs endoscopy (gastroscopy). As well as standard endoscopy he performs endoscopic treatment for Barrett's oesophagus by endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and by radiofrequency ablation (RFA). He performed the first RFA treatments for Barrett's oesophagus in Australia. He also performs Bravo capsule testing for GORD.

Professor Lord works at St. Vincent’s Hospital, St. Vincent’s Private Hospital, and Macquarie University Hospital. He consults at St. Vincent's Clinic and at the Healthy Weight Clinic at Macquarie University Hospital.

After training at St. Vincent's Hospital, Professor Lord spent more than 5 years at the University of Southern California where the sleeve gastrectomy operation was first performed. During this time he was one of the first surgeons worldwide to perform the sleeve gastrectomy operation, more than 15 years ago. Professor Lord was the first person to perform robotic general surgery in Australia.
